2. Privacy at a glance

BrowserDetails.org is deliberately built to be data-minimal: there is no user account, no registration, no contact form and no newsletter. The browser check itself only evaluates the technical details your browser sends with every page request anyway – nothing is stored in the process. Personal data is processed only in the narrowly defined cases described below.

3. Hosting and server log files

This website is operated on our own server at Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany. A data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR is in place with Hetzner. The data does not leave the European Union.

When you access the site, the web server automatically processes technical access data (IP address, date and time, requested page, transferred data volume, referrer and user agent) in server log files. This processing is necessary for the secure and stable operation of the website, for example to defend against attacks and analyse errors. The legal basis is our legitimate interest under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. The log files are kept only as long as required for these purposes and are then deleted automatically. They are not combined with any other data.

4. The browser check

The core function of this site is showing you your own browser details. To do this, the server evaluates the user agent and – if your browser sends them – the so-called Client Hints (e.g. browser version, operating system, device type). The evaluation takes place entirely locally on our server using an open-source library; no data is transmitted to third parties. The details are processed in memory only for the duration of the page request and are not stored.

Your IP address is shown to you on the page in a shortened form so that you know it for support purposes if needed. This display is also transient and involves no storage. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (provision of the function you requested).

5. Support reports (share function)

You can voluntarily create a time-limited support link to share your browser details, for example with an administrator. Such a report is stored only when you actively create it. Beforehand, you choose which details to include; your IP address and the full user agent are included only if you tick the corresponding boxes.

The report is stored on our server encrypted with AES-256-GCM and can only be accessed via the generated link. Depending on the lifetime you choose (1, 7 or 30 days), it is then deleted automatically. When creating it you also receive a deletion link that lets you remove the report yourself at any time. The legal basis is your consent under Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR; you can withdraw it at any time with effect for the future by deleting the report.

6. Language preference cookie

If you actively switch the display language via the language selector, the site stores your choice in the cookie bd_locale (lifetime: 12 months) so that it is retained on your next visit. The cookie is set exclusively when you switch languages and contains only the language code. It is strictly necessary for this function you explicitly requested and therefore exempt from consent under Section 25(2) no. 2 of the German TDDDG; the processing is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.

7. Consent management (consent dialog)

For services requiring consent, we use a self-operated consent dialog. The associated script is loaded from our own domain stats1.de, which runs on the same server in Germany; no third parties are involved. The dialog stores your decision so that it does not reappear on every visit and documents it for verification purposes. Storing the consent decision itself is technically necessary (Section 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG); processing it as proof of consent is based on Art. 6(1)(c) and (f) GDPR. You can change or withdraw your selection at any time via the cookie settings (cookie icon at the bottom of the page).

8. Visitor statistics (LiteTrack)

For audience measurement we use the self-operated statistics tool LiteTrack under our domain stats2.de. It also runs on the same server in Germany; no data is passed on to third parties.

The data recorded are the page visited and the time of the visit, the referring page (referrer), technical details such as browser type, operating system, screen resolution and language, as well as the approximate session duration and the number of page views. In its default mode, LiteTrack measures without cookies and without storing your full IP address: to distinguish visits, only a daily-changing, non-reversible check value is generated, which can no longer be linked to any person from the following day onwards. Evaluation is carried out in aggregated form and contains no names, email addresses or other directly identifying details. The legal basis for this is our legitimate interest in privacy-friendly audience measurement under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.

Only if you agree in the consent dialog does LiteTrack additionally set the cookies _lt_ses (session detection, lifetime 30 minutes) and _lt_vid (recognition of returning visitors, lifetime 12 months). The legal basis is then your consent under Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and Section 25(1) TDDDG; you can withdraw it at any time with effect for the future via the cookie settings – after withdrawal the script deletes the statistics cookies automatically and measures without cookies again. 9. Abuse protection (rate limiting)

To protect the support link function against abuse, we limit the number of requests per sender. For this purpose, a pseudonymised check value (HMAC) is briefly derived from your IP address; the IP address itself is not stored in plain text. The check values are deleted automatically after a short time. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in stable, abuse-free operation under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.

10. No third-party services, no advertising

This website does not embed any third-party services: no Google Analytics, no advertising networks, no social media plugins, no external fonts and no third-party CDNs. All scripts and content are delivered from our own domains. Occasional references to our own projects are plain text links – data is only transmitted to the linked site once you click the link. Personal data is not transferred to third countries.

11. Contacting us by email

If you write to us at the email address stated in the legal notice, we process the details you provide (email address, name, content of your message) solely in order to handle your enquiry. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, or Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR for contract-related enquiries. The data is deleted as soon as it is no longer required for processing and no statutory retention obligations prevent deletion.

12. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the following rights: access to your stored data (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and objection to processing based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (Art. 21). You can withdraw any consent you have given at any time with effect for the future. Simply contact the email address given above.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The authority responsible for us is the Saxon Commissioner for Data Protection and Transparency in Dresden, Germany.

13. Encrypted transmission

For security reasons, this website uses TLS encryption (recognisable by the lock symbol and “https” in the address bar). This prevents third parties from reading the data you transmit.

14. Currency and changes

This privacy policy reflects the date stated above. Further development of the website or changed legal requirements may make adjustments necessary. The current version can be accessed on this page at any time.
